Peace be upon you.

Domestic helpers are those who help us out in our homes or sometimes offices. They help in making sure that our homes or offices look decent. They cover other errands which we might be too busy to cover as a result other engagement which takes most of our time hence their assistance becomes necessary to make life easier. In Nigeria, we refer to them as “House boys” or “House girls” as the case may be.

Over the years, many of the people who offer this important services to us are dehumanized and deserving no respect. They are subjected to torture, humiliation, sexual exploitation, intimidation and ostracized from even the family they are assisting. I am not here to give examples about families that are not getting right but if you need examples look around you examples abound all over the place about those who are getting it right and wrong.

Some of these domestic helpers have greatly contributed in breaking so many homes by actions the man or woman has failed to fix. Some helpers have inflicted great pains on the children entrusted to their care. How can this impasse be fixed?

I will answer this question by asking another question. Who is dignified asked a rabbi, One who dignifies others?

Let’s dignify ourselves and our helpers.
