PEOPLE FIRST; PROPERTY SECOND

PEOPLE FIRST; PROPERTY SECOND (part one)                    CHIBU NDUBUISI 27/02/2017   Peace be to you What  are the foundations that makes a generation last? What does it mean to put people first? Why does it matter to put people first over property? What type of family were we brought up? In what type of country did we grow?what type of education do they promote? What type of believe system do they follow? What type of behaviour do they reward and sanction? What type of economic system do they subscribe to? Who are their role models? A nation that values cows over people cannot build a generation that will last? A nation that her politicians makes policies that will impoverish the coming generation is not built to last. "Former president Eisenhower of USA regarded National debt as our children's inherited mortgage,  he warned profligate government of the possibilities of robbing their grand children. It is not a crime to borrow money, but when the loan

WHILE WE WERE PRAYING: BY AN ANONYMOUS WRITER.

After independence, in order to build a great nation, each country went to work. But in Nigeria, after independence, our people went to pray and fast. So, while we were praying, Malaysia came here and took our palm seedlings and built a great factory of it. While we were praying, Singapore went into investment in technology. While we were praying, India went into ICT. While we were praying, China went to massive industrialization. While we were shouting Allah Alakuba! UAE went into massive infrastructural development. While we were binding and casting Lucifer, Japan went into technological development. While we were speaking in tongues, Denmark went into education of her citizens. While we were mounting big speakers in our places of worship, USA was mounting man on the moon. After our prayers, God, being a wise God decided to reward us according to our labour. Since those that went into industrialization, technology, infrastructural development, ICT, education etc has been re

Ikeaka Clement Writes On Our Sliding Educational System

Most of our leaders while growing up in early 60s,&70s are being forced or encouraged to go to school by the then administrations and have jobs waiting for them as they graduate cos they were all born in agrarian days. Some of them were on scholarship, very few after they graduated here were sent abroad on free education, some were sponsored by the government, while some were backed by a community or town. Some were sponsored by either their parents or relatives. Back then education was more like a light shining in darkness and everybody regardless the tribes embrace it. Back then, there's no or little travelling outside the country to school cos our educational system was rated as one the best. In the late 70s,$1/#1. Education was attractive, and lucrative. Back then, our government through his minister of education made education a beautiful bride, they have educational educating programmes, educative opra on tv,debate and quiz competitions on national 📺,scholarships for bril

HOW WE CREATE HELL

HOW WE CREATE HELL                                                                20/02/2017 Peace be to you. No matter how fast we move on the wrong road it is still a wrong road. The story of the prodigal son as told in the bible is that of someone who understood the warning sign and turned back. So many road signs, signals, markings help explain diffetent course of actions we must take or obey when we use the roads. These signs range from prohibitive signs, mandatory signs, informative signs and warning signs. As humans our entire engagement with mother earth operates on some principles and once their is an infraction, we create hell, a penalty is paid and in paying some penalties we never fully recover. Family, Economy,  Politics,  Culture and Religion are all capable of making us derail from time to time. Hitler exterminated almost six million jews, Rev king turned women in his congregation in to sex slaves, giving them se

RABBI JONATHAN SACKS QUOTE ON WEALTH AND POVERTY

“The economic growth produced by globalization and information technology has religious significance first and foremost because of the degree to which, more than any previous economic order, it allows us to alleviate poverty. ” “A world in which the few prosper and many starve, offends our deepest sense of fairness and human solidarity. You do not have to be a convinced egalitarian to know that disparities of this magnitude – vast, concentrated wealth alongside widespread suffering – is intolerable. ” “Poverty humiliates, and a good society will not allow humiliation ” “We cannot enjoy the food of affluence while others eat the bread of affliction. We are not fully free if others are oppressed. ”

RABBI JONATHAN SACKS QUOTE ON MARRIAGE.

“Marriage is a journey across an unknown land with nothing to protect you from the elements except one another ”

QUOTE ON HOPE BY RABBI JONATHAN SACKS

“Hope is the narrow bridge across which we must walk if we are to pass from slavery to redemption, from the valley of death to the open spaces of new life.”

HOW TO HEAL A FRACTURED WORLD BY BILL GATES

Take a look at @BillGates's Tweet: https://twitter.com/BillGates/status/832336758356455424?s=09

A view from my friend Austin Obi on those who stand with President Buhari.

I don't use strong language to address people because I know how much such words hurt. However, I will use it today on a group of people who create the impression they are impervious to the disastrous policies of the man who calls himself president of Nigeria. The 'IStandWithBuhari' group of voyeurs are  really unbelievable people. There is no ilk of people a sick society does not throw up. Nigeria is diseased, very diseased, and we all are the patients,  including  these shenanigans who demonstrate their commitment to the existing order. The naira is already the worst performing currency on the African continent, yet, they stand with the existing order. Very amazing.

OUR SCRIPTS, REHEARSALS AND OUTPUT

OUR SCRIPTS, REHEARSALS AND OUTPUT By  CHIBU NDUBUISI 13/02/2017 Peace be to you. We have different types of movie genres.  Action, Comedy, Crime, Thriller,  Adventure, Drama,  Horror, Fantasy,  Historical,  Magical, Mystery,  Political, Philosophical,  Science Fiction,  Romance,  Biopic etc. Before any of the aforementioned genres of movies comes to be, series of rehearsals are practiced regarding assigned roles and then final output.  Characters are very important in any script but for any character an assigned role awaits. The roles help flesh up written or spoken ideas in the scripts.  We all play one role or the other in our day to day living, and these roles are motivated by the forces of socialisation that we have been exposed to at one point or the other in the process of navigating this terrain. David Brooks writes in the New York Times Newspaper (April 5th  2016) that their are "Four Big Forces of Mordern Societies 1.Global Migration leading to demographic diversity

REGRET MANAGEMENT 2

Heal a Fractured World Column                       Chibu Ndubuisi 06/02/2017                     Regret Management (Part Two) Peace be to you. 'The follies which a man regrets most in his life, are those which he didn't commit when he had the opportunity'. Helen Rowland. How different will your life be or would have been had you done what you regret not doing? It is said that 'he who does not move does not notice his chains'. Equally true is that he who takes no action  does not notice how inaction has bound him down. Take a step and free yourself from the judgemental eyes of others. What are your 'Compelling and Restraining forces'? What pushes you? What urges and triggers you? What holds you bound? The simple antidote to regret is to take action. When you act, it deepens understanding of what works and what doesn't work. Lessons of everyday life are not learnt in the closet. A sense of taking responsibility appears central to the man

REGRET MANAGEMENT

HEAL A FRACTURED WORLD COLUMN                                                  CHIBU NDUBUISI. 30/01/2017                                                    Regret Management (part one) Peace be to you. We all at one time in our lives have been overwhelmed by the  emotions of guilt over our actions and inactions.  When people say,'I don't regret anything', I doubt the veracity of such claims. To live in this world without pangs of regrets or mistakes is hard to encounter. Some of our choices bring us good while others bring us pain. How then can we reduce or manage this regret variable in our lives? When you go in to introspection, what are your biggest regrets? At some points, we have equally asked ourelves 'if only I might have known what would have been, I would have done things differently to mitigate against experiencing a life of unfulfilled dreams'. We can have regrets of action and inaction but the regrets of inaction generates more pain

HOW COVENANTS AND CONTRACTS BUILDS US

HEAL A FRACTURED WORLD COLUMN      By  CHIBU NDUBUISI 23/01/2017 How Covenants and Contracts Builds Us Peace be to you. Covenants and contracts help in definition of roles based on the pedestal we stand. Covenant is seen as an agreement between God and a person or a group of people. Contract is a legally binding or valid agreement between two parties(offer and acceptance) and there must be an intention between the parties to create a binding relationship. A covenent or contract cannot be fully functional when it is built on faulty, false and pretentious foundation like Nigeria. Even in our relationships, if built on quicksand as we normally see or experience in day to day living,  always and inevitably does not give us the best outcome. In Nigeria for example, covenant cannot be when Boko Haram murder people in the name of God and try to impose their ways of life on others forgetting that God created differences.  A contract cannot be when it is defined by the v

IDOLS AND FATAL ALLEGIANCE

HEAL A FRACTURED WORLD COLUMN                     CHIBU NDUBUISI  16/01/2017                         IDOLS AND FATAL ALLEGIANCE Peace be to you. Oxford dictionary defines idol as (a) a person or thing that is loved and admired very much.(b) a statue that is worshiped as a god. In the 21st century, technology, politics, economy, politics are but a few of the many idols we pay allegiance to and inadvertently fallen prey to their menancing tentacles. Former president Olusegun Obasanjo as a president of Nigeria posited that'politics is a do or die affairs' meaning that he is ready to kill to secure electoral victory. Former governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi in the run up to the 2015 general elections said that' if the PDP rigs the elections, we will make the country ungovernable, we will form a parallel government and there will be anarchy'. His threats did not materialize because PDP lost the elections and handed over power to APC government and anarchy was not

A QUESTION OF TIME

HEAL A FRACTURED WORLD COLUMN                            BY CHIBU NDUBUISI  09/01/2017                                 A QUESTION OF TIME Peace be to you. This is one of the favourite quote of my aunt. She uses it to explain her experiences of life. She quotes the biblical passage of " a time for everything" and explains it with the slavery experience of the people of Israel, until a day and a time they were librated from the Egyptians their oppressors which they saw no more. A Question of Time Heals and liberates. Nelson Mandela in his book"Long Walk to Freedom", explains that 'time is longer than rope. He never gave in to the temptations of momentary betrayals, by explaining to his oppressors that "prisoners do not go in to contract but free men do". He took the long walk believing that his troubles is just for "A Question of Time". Mandela eventually  triumphed in his struggles against the Apartheid regime of the day. He

START WITH WHY

HEAL A FRACTURED WORLD COLUMN                                                 BY CHIBU NDUBUISI    02/01/2017                                                     START WITH WHY Peace be to you all. I intend for the rest of the year 2017 and beyond  to always share some thoughts with you every Monday morning as my contribution towards healing a fractured world. The title of this piece was adopted from the book by Simon Sinek "START WITH WHY". As we begin 2017, it is pertinent you ask yourself so many "why questions". I can help profer a little direction on how to navigate the undulating planes life presents. The responsible life is the life that responds. What are you responding to? What do you intend to respond to in the new year? Do you intend to follow any current as it flows? Are you owing up to the actions that has held you back? Are you ready to make peace with yourself? Why do you take four steps forward and two steps backward? Blame no o
