PEOPLE FIRST; PROPERTY SECOND

PEOPLE FIRST; PROPERTY SECOND (part one)

Peace be to you

What  are the foundations that makes a generation last? What does it mean to put people first? Why does it matter to put people first over property? What type of family were we brought up? In what type of country did we grow?what type of education do they promote? What type of believe system do they follow? What type of behaviour do they reward and sanction? What type of economic system do they subscribe to? Who are their role models?

A nation that values cows over people cannot build a generation that will last? A nation that her politicians makes policies that will impoverish the coming generation is not built to last. "Former president Eisenhower of USA regarded National debt as our children's inherited mortgage,  he warned profligate government of the possibilities of robbing their grand children. It is not a crime to borrow money, but when the loans are poorly managed or devoted to welfare programmes with no returns on investments,  economic troubles lies in wait. The Buhari government has just created an official begging class that collects stipends from government. Those who depend on welfare dont farewell. ". A nation that sees her children as witches and wizards is not built to last. A nation that sells her children is not built to last. The Nigerian Nation is still playing ostrich game. Former president Jonathan built schools for the Alamajiris in the Northern part of  the country because they are  the most backward part of the country in Nigeria, what are the fate of such schools today?

Israel as a nation is the second most innovative nation on earth. The jews people have the highest number of Noble prize winners, they are the only stock of people with the highest number of billionaires on forbes list. Israel is surrounded by very hostile and vicious neighbours. Yet in the midst of all these troubles, why have they prospered? The have been persecuted over the  centuries including the Holocaust by Hitler that killed millions of them. What is their staying power?  Why have they come out of persecution to contribute more towards healing a fractured world with their knowledge?  They put people first before property.

It is said that the most important item in the family budget of an average jewish family is tuition fees. Parents will sell their valuables in order to pay for school term. Their role models are teachers. How have we treated our teachers in Nigeria over the years? In Anambra state some years back , the public school system  collapsed under the watch of former Governor Mbadiniju in which pupils no longer went to school because salaries were not paid. We have watched  how over the years successive leaders have plunged the educational system of Nigeriain in  to abyss.

The Uk government and Employees Association stated key skills we all need in this age;(a) communication(b)application of numbers (c)information technology(d) working with others (e)problem solving (f) improving own learning and performance. When you are out of school, how do you acquire these skills? Even if you are in school,  you are likely to be kidnapped like the Chibok girls and many sad experiences we hear day in day out about how children are abused?

The task is not to talk about vision 2020 or 2050. The simple task is to enable it with purposeful education.

Peace be with you.

To be continued
