Peace be upon you

Going through the 2019 Annual Letter of the Bill& Melinda Gates foundation, they noted in the report about their visit to a prison facility to learn about the link between poverty and incarceration.

Helping to support programmes that help in smooth transition, the University of Chicago ran an intervention programme "Becoming A Man" (BAM) that works to improve impulse control, help decision making, build skills of young men and help reduce violent crimes that normally exist among young people and normally ends in incarceration or death and came to the conclusions that such programmes works..

In Nigeria we have such intervention programmes carried out by religious bodies to help in this transition. We have seen in many ways how Cult and Gang related activities have reduced in our universities, we have also seen many social intervention programmes geared towards helping out socially and emotionally interwoven to to many fabrics of the society by State and Non State actors respectively.

We had active Boys Scout and Girls Guide. Are such programmes still working today? What value are we creating from the abundance of talents or resources we have at our disposal? How are we willing to let such programmes move on to help heal a fractured world?

Peace be with you.
