HOW WILL YOU ACCOUNT FOR THAT TALENT, TREASURE AND TIME GIVEN TO YOU? BY CHIBU NDUBUISI.
CHIBU NDUBUISI. 05/06/2017
Peace be to you.
Let me present two pictures below this post to you about
1. A photo journalist by the name Kevin Carter and
2. A Syrian refugee Abdul Halim Attar
A photo journalist is someone who takes photograph for personal or commercial purposes. Either as a freelancer, (sell his photographs to the public) or employee of an organization. He makes a living from photographing.
KELVIN CARTER is a South Africa photo journalist, who began his career photographing scenes of violent struggle against Apartheid in South Africa. However, it was a 1993 picture of famine victim in Sudan that changed his life forever.
This picture depicts a famine stricken child crawling towards a United Nation food Camp, located Kilometers away and Kevin Carter saw this girl and crouched his camera to photograph her, a vulture landed in view and waited patiently for the child to die, so that it can feast on it.
This picture shocked the whole world.
No one knew what happened to the child, including the photographer Kevin Carter who left the place as soon as the photograph was taken. The picture earned Carter the 1994 Pulitzer prize for feature photograph.
Three months later, he committed Suicide due to depression.
NOW THE QUESTION IS, AFTER TAKING THE PHOTOGRAPH WHAT DID HE DO TO SAVE THE KID?
He might have been the vulture on the scene. You can equally be a vulture if on seeing how you can help someone shows indifference to their plight and let them to be consumed.
ABDUL HALIM ATTAR
Is a Syrian refugee. A refugee is someone who has fled his country as a result of war and is now squatting or resident in another country. A refugee is someone who has crossed an international boundary.
Abdul Halim went into the street of Lebanon to sell pen to send his daughters to school.
The picture of this father selling pens as his four year old daughter slept in his arms sparked a universal crowd funding campaign to help him and his two young children.
An activist Gissur Simonarson launched the indiegogo campaign. Aimed at raising $5,000 dollars for Mr Attar. The target was reached in less than half an hour.
Mr Simonarson said that he created a special account called ‘’Buy Pen’’ on Twitter and used it to help this man.
In just three days, more than $140,000 was raised for his family.
LESSONS.
The question is, what are you doing with your talent, time and treasure to heal a fractured world?
What are you learning from life now and what are you willing to pass on to the next generation?
You may be aware of the parable of talents in mattew25; 14-30 on how they rendered their reports based on the talent treasure and time given to them.
Before i conclude, the song by Bobby Austin and Curt Sapaugh titled TRY LITTLE KINDNESS
Can help give us some direction.
TRY LITTLE KINDNESS
Written by Bobby Austin and Curt Sapaugh
1. If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load
From the seeds he sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and say
You going the wrong way
CHORUS
You got to try little kindness
Yes, show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try little kindness
Then you’ll overlook the blindness
Never mind the people
On the narrow minded street
2. Don’t walk around the down and out
Lend a helping hand
Instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show everyday
Will help someone
Along the way.
Let’s keep healing. The world is waiting for your impact
Peace be with you
