Peace be to you.
The supreme religious challenge is to see God's  image in one who is not in our   image (Rabbi Jonathan Sacks.)

As Christians all over the world celebrate the resurrection of  Jesus Christ, a thought for all faiths to make space for other faiths not in their image. Sacks writes that "we have conqured every distance except one -the distance between human beings" God made us in his image and allowed us to be different "just as the natural enviroment depends on bio diversity so the human environment depends on cultural diversity because no one creed has a monopoly on spiritual truths, no one civilization encompasses all the spiritual,  ethical and artistic expression of mankind.  God loves diversity. He does not ask us to serve him in the same way. God cannot be reduced to a single faith or language". (Ibid)

To make peace,  we have to give up a little of our dreams for the sake of someone's else dreams(ibid). I commend the Christian Association of Nigeria in this regard and the goal of ecumenism is a good idea which should be pursued by all that desires peace. "When difference leads to war, both sides lose. When it leads to mutual enrichment,  both sides gain". What is society ? asked sacks. Society is the home we build together when we bring our several gifts to the common good.

Religion has done harm. But the cure of bad religion is good religion not no religion. Just as the cure of bad science is good science not abandonment of science. (Ibid)

The Boko Haram terrorist organisations,  the ISIL are  gaining nothing by destroying others because they are equally destroying themselves.  We must never forget that behind us lies a blood stained history of inquisition,  crusades and  jihads. We must also not forget that every human being,  the born again, the unbeliever, the infidel, the redeemed,  the un redeemed are all in the image of God.

May we use this Easter celebration of the risen Christ to know 'that however dark the world, love still heals.

Peace be with you.

  1. When we all respects the diversity of worship, and come to realize that their is no singular mode of worship, then we will appreciate God more in our socio-cultural norms and values
