                 AGE OF COMPARATIVE TRAGEDY

When you ask them why should two people be Killed, they will say it used to be five. When you asked them why jail bloggers, they will say it used to be journalists; we live in the age of comparative tragedy.      SENATOR SHEHU SANI

Peace be upon you.
Today’s topic was extracted from the tweet of Senator Shehu Sani who noted with great dismay how the values we all share as  a common family has been eroded on the altar of politics without empathy and sympathy. When political or economic systems are compared world over , there are acceptable indices and indicators that come to the fore as a result of the impact such variable has made on the society.

The advantages of comparing political and economic systems most of the times is to show how things can be done better through exploring the strengths and working out how to improve on the weaknesses.

If I may ask, in the last five years in Nigeria, what is the statistics of people lifted out of poverty? Has the educational system in Nigeria improved? Has the culture of religious extremism and fundamentalism been replaced with education for peace and peaceful living?

These are the type of question we must engage our minds with rather than comparing tragedies.

Let’s work to be better than yesterday.

Peace be with you.
