Peace
be upon you.
A
friend of mine told me that he developed a very keen interest with a lady he
met on Facebook. They started chatting and sooner the booked engagement to meet
physically devoid of the social media arena. He was not only disappointed by
her physical appearance but also the deceitful looks presented in the social
media platform enabled by Photoshop and noise reduction applications.
Likewise,
simulation experiences are perfectly created and engineered to give us near real
life experiences of how things are or can be in an ideal state. My friend
however was not interested in the beauty of the heart of the lady in question or the intellectual content of the chat he had been having with
the lady which kept him glued until he met her and the illusion created by the virtual
world was busted as a result of unfounded expectations that were made manifest.
Virtual reality according
to an online source is a computer-generated environment that can be interacted
with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic
equipment.
My take on today’s
topic is simply on genuine reality and why it is the only platform where we can
share our altruism. Genuine reality can be carried out through virtual
platforms but it does not end there. Fight
against poverty, diseases, terrorism cannot be fully defeated only on virtual platform;
actions must be practically carried out to help those truly in need.
Someone once asked a
question that with all our Facebook friends, how many can we rely on when in
times of distress? This answer can be left open ended. I have seen people use
virtual platform to help fight social, economic and political causes. I have
seen people use the virtual platform to wreak havoc. I have seen groups that
are centered on creating awareness on many issues, I have seen people raise crowd
funding for those in need, I have seen very genuine groups develop platforms of
hope but at the end of the day no one is buried on any virtual platform.
One on one encounter is still vital.
Peace be with you.
