THE NEXT BATTLE
THE NEXT BATTLE
(c) 2017 BY CHIBU NDUBUISI. 25/12/2017 (WEEK 52)
Peace be upon you.
Why must we be battle ready for the Next Battle? The reason to get ready for the next battle is that in this age, people are losing themselves without knowing it. How are we losing ourselves?
Jonathan Sacks raised a warning that “today, too many children live in poverty and illiteracy, dying for lack of medical attention because those who rule nations prefer weapons to welfare, hostage taking to hospital building, fighting the battle of the past rather than shaping a safe future, it is the lesson the world has not learnt”. “The tragedy is that if you lose a hand or leg you know, but when you lose yourself, you are no longer there to know it”. We can fight against losing ourselves by making conscious efforts to help contribute in solving the “Solvable Human Misery” (SHM) as Bill Gates puts it. He went further and galvanized a Coalition for Endemic Preparedness Innovation (CEPI) to be battle ready to help heal the world of many diseases.
When I published my first post in January 2nd 2017, I titled it “Start With Why” an adaptation of Simon Sinek book. In the post I explained what motivated me in to writing and promised to continue with the passion of teaching, which technology provided me the platform to publish every week on Facebook and on my blog (chibundubuisi.blogspot.com).
This post is the 52nd post and the last for the year 2017. I am grateful and deeply touched by the unintended consequences all the post has had on me and my audience. I have improved greatly in typing. I appreciate all those who called and encouraged me to keep the FLAME on. In the process of writing, I have equally been changed profoundly. The discipline of keeping to the post schedule, without any structure of authority compelling me to do so nor any monetary benefit motivating me was eye opening. The only supervisor was my conscience and the commitment I made with her .I never disappointed.
Initially I was troubled about what to keep discussing as the weeks unfolded but I realized that as my ink kept flowing, ideas never ceased to flow. The more I created, the more creative powers were unleashed. . Levi Brackman & Sam Jaffe notes in their book “Jewish Wisdom For Business Success” p 28, that “once you find your authentic self, it becomes an endless spring of motivation and passion for whatever you want to achieve in business and personal lives. Find the inner will and passion and that will lead to your success but you must start at the very beginning”.
This year 2017 was a very spectacular year in many respects. Nigeria went in to recession but the recession never receded my post. The constant electricity blackout never blanked out the flow of healthy ideas. The fuel scarcity never demobilized my vehicle of thought from journeying across many intellectual boundaries without hitch. I am grateful.
The Next Battle is about making sure that we contribute to help heal a fractured world. All avenues to stifle freedom of expression by any government of the day must not see the light of the day. Of particular note, I am grateful to the civil society like SERAP, BRING BACK OUR GIRLS, OUR MUMU DON DO and NOT TO YOUNG TO RUN advocacy group for their doggedness in enlarging the democratic space.
I am thankful to the Nigerian Senate for the passage of a motion titled “The Need for National Unity and Peaceful Coexistence in Nigeria” sponsored by the 109 Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 14th of June 2017. This explains how the desire for peace burns in the heart of many, because the game of peace is bigger than the teams of war. Societies evolve and in the evolutionary process resolutions are passed, summits are organized, consultations are made, political settlement reached, civil society contributions made, international gathering organized, local community initiatives aggregated, conferences held, diplomatic initiatives enabled and finally, declarations are made. This is how the seeds of peace are sown.
I am grateful for the African Union idea of “Building the Africa We Want” popularly called “Agenda 2063” by the advocating for all to “Silence The Guns” and following up with many realistic approach to “ensure that the burden of conflict is not bequeathed to the next generation of Africans, promising to undertake to end all wars by 2020, making sure we build “an Africa whose development is people driven relying on the potential of African people, especially its women and youth and caring for children” because “the world our children will inherit tomorrow is born in the school we build today”. ‘It is a compelling narrative of hope in the future’.
I want to thank in a special way Chidi Henry Odike. Obi 'Chuks' Chukwuneke, Chris Mayor Udengwu John Nd Michael, Oche John, Chukwuma Sunday Ujoh Charles Raphael, Emmanuel Nwachi, Macdonald Onumaku, Tony-iyke Ubah, Chidi Jay Nwokolo, Okaforcha Chidi JC, Fason Afam ,Franca Unije Onyemelukwe, Kingsley Chinonye Unije, May Oduma. Emesiofor Wearls, i am thankful and appreciate you all. 2018 has many unwritten chapters of progress for you all. One love.
Good bye 2017. Welcome 2018.
Peace be with you all. One Love.
