‘The desert surrounds your every step and
you walk forever a thirsty man. ..’ Christopher

Peace
be upon you.
Deserts are characterized
by the following climatic, topographic and biotic characters: Aridity,
Extremes of temperature, Humidity, Precipitation, Drought, Absence of
water vapour in air, Biologic soil is absent in most of deserts. Vegetation is
scarce and animals face shortage of food, Scarcity of water.
We may not live
physically in the desert regions of the world, but because we have been
programmed naturally to search when we need or lack something, this drive to
search can be likened an aridity of the human soul which needs to be sated. Hence,
the push forward out of the desert in search of waters of salvation and
redemption.
Mehmet
Murat ildan noted that “If the desert allows the trees to proliferate, the
desert shall disappear! Therefore the desert has no choice but to be the enemy
of the trees”. If the needed desires of
mankind are satisfied, then we have reached the epic of progress and civilization then there
would be no need for learning.
In his Commencement
address, Steve Jobs advised that we should all stay “Hungry and Foolish”. How can you stay hungry? You only stay hungry
when you lack something. You only stay hungry in the desert.
As we continue to long and thirst for whatever that
needs to be addressed, may our efforts never be in vain but contribute towards healing
a fractured world.
Peace be with you.
